North Carolina Railroad Company Invests in Freight Rail Infrastructure to Serve Sherwin Williams

The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) is one of several partners named in the recent announcement that Sherwin Williams will be adding 36,000-square-feet of space to their existing manufacturing facility and constructing a new 800,000-square-foot distribution center in Statesville, NC.  In total, Sherwin Williams will bring an investment of $324 million and 183 new jobs to Iredell County, increasing their economic presence across North Carolina.

Sherwin Williams requires freight rail infrastructure to serve the new facility.  Through the North Carolina Railroad Company’s economic development initiative NCRR Invests, NCRR is investing approximately $300,000 to assist with the construction of a new rail spur and storage tracks for Norfolk Southern to serve the expanding manufacturing operation. The new rail modifications will increase activity by 600 additional rail cars each year.

“Investments like this are the result of strong partnerships,” said Carl Warren, NCRR President and CEO. “NCRR appreciates the opportunity to contribute to an effort which included Iredell County, the City of Statesville, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina and many others who made this important project happen. These wins are always a team effort, resulting in the creation of new jobs and retention of existing employment at a crucial moment for our economy.”

Additional project partners include the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, Mitchell Community College, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Norfolk Southern, and the Iredell County Economic Development Corporation.
