RAILEVANT QUESTIONS

September 15, 2020
What is the railed product’s origin/destination?
A: Rail may (or may not) be the best transportation option.

Unlike road trips with Clark Griswald, a long-distance haul is a good idea when it comes to rail. Rail is typically the best option if a product is travelling more than 400 miles.

B: Clients must analyze costs.

A product’s origin and destination dictate its shipping route, and some routes have height and weight restrictions.

If a product must change hands from one railroad to another (aka interchange) along its journey, this can also affect route and rate planning.

Understanding all of this helps the client narrow project costs, which ultimately impacts the project’s feasibility.
