Welcome to Whistlestop at Company Shops Station…the story of the North Carolina Railroad Company. It’s the true tale of how a steel track built more than 150 years ago generated enough economic energy to transform the state into the modern region it is today. And today, the trains just keep on running, moving products and people where they need to go.

Company Shops Station

Whistlestop is housed in the only remaining building from the NCRR’s original repair and maintenance operations. It combines in-depth narrative—which you can read here on this site--with life-size, accurately reproduced trains as they would have looked rumbling through the building for repairs. Another popular component is the to-scale model of the town of Company Shops, known today as Burlington, which served as the railroad’s headquarters.
