Whistlestop

WhistlestopAs the state's oldest corporation, the NCRR has a history that mirrors the growth and development of North Carolina. Visit the company's new exhibit, Whistlestop at Company Shops Station, located in Burlington at 101 North Main Street. The exhibit tells the NCRR story - past, present and future (as best we can tell) and illustrates the fact that the railroad is indeed the state's original engine for economic development.

You'll see two engines - a modern freight and an old steam-coming through the walls in the engine house, just as they would've in the building's heyday. A to-scale model replicates life in Company Shops (Burlington's original name) circa 1880s. Kiosks filled with images tell the NCRR story and that of the people who built it. A timeline puts NCRR's history in perspective with that of the rail industry as a whole.
